Frequently asked questions
What types of events do you attend?
We provide miniature animal experiences for weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, school visits, photo shoots, church events, and private gatherings.
What animals can we choose from?
Our animals include:
* Mini Highland cows (Willow, Winnifred, William)
* Mini donkeys (Harvey, Jenny, Jack)
* Camel (Walter- coming summer of 2026)
* Mini goats
* Mini pigs
* Chickens, ducks, and rabbits
Animal availability depends on event type, weather, and location.
How long do the animals stay?
Most experiences are 1–3 hours depending on your package. We arrive early for setup and remain for the full scheduled time.
Are the animals safe?
Yes. Our animals are well-socialized, handled regularly, and attended by experienced handlers at all times. We prioritize safety for both guests and animals.
Do you provide handlers?
Absolutely. All animals are accompanied by trained handlers who manage interactions, answer questions, and ensure safety.
What space is required?
We typically require:
* A flat outdoor area (grass preferred)
* Minimum 20x20 ft space for larger animals
* Shade during warm months
* Easy access for unloading
We’ll confirm details during booking.
Can animals serve drinks at weddings?
Yes! Our miniature cows, donkeys, or camel can participate in a beverage service experience. This is one of our most popular wedding add-ons.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain is manageable. For severe weather, we may reschedule or adjust the setup for animal safety. Covered areas are preferred when possible.
How far do you travel?
We are based in Western New York and travel throughout Buffalo, Rochester, and surrounding areas. Our standard rate is $2-$3 per loaded mile. Additional staff Travel fees may apply for longer distances.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your date. Remaining balance is due 1 week prior to the event.
Are animals available year-round?
Select animals are available year-round, weather permitting. Winter events require special accommodations.
Do the animals make a mess?
They’re animals — so yes, occasionally. But don’t worry — we manage cleanup during and after the event.
Can guests feed the animals?
Feeding is allowed only with approved treats provided by us. Outside food is not permitted for safety reasons.
Are your animals insured?
Yes. Cruz Family Homestead carries liability insurance for events.
How far in advance should we book?
Peak wedding and event season (May–October) books months in advance. We recommend reserving as soon as your date is confirmed.
Can we request specific animals?
You may request favorites (like Willow or Walter!), but final confirmation depends on scheduling, weather, and animal wellbeing.
Is this appropriate for children?
Absolutely. Our experiences are designed to be interactive and family-friendly, with supervision at all times.
Can we visit the homestead instead?
Yes! We also offer private on-site farm experiences by appointment.
