The Cruz Family Homestead began as a simple hobby project in 2024 — and like many great stories, it started with chickens.

Lindsey brought home a flock of six hens and planted a few modest garden beds, simply looking to slow down and reconnect with something more natural. It has been said that chickens are the “gateway” animal to homesteading — and Lindsey is living proof that this is absolutely true. What started as a small backyard project quickly became a passion for sustainable living, animal care, and teaching their children the value of hard work and stewardship.

By 2025, the homestead had rapidly developed into so much more. The garden expanded into a thriving family food source, and a variety of farm animals joined the property. What began as a hobby turned into a lifestyle — one centered around simplicity, faith, family, and the joy that animals bring to both children and adults alike.

In 2026, the Cruzes took their homesteading vision to the next level with the purchase of 75 acres in Varysburg, NY. This breathtaking property is home to:

  • A charming on-site Airbnb experience for guests seeking a peaceful country escape

The Cruzes plan to expand their love for farm animals onto this property so that wedding guests and Airbnb visitors alike can experience the heartwarming simplicity of country living. Their vision is to blend rustic elegance with authentic farm life — creating unforgettable moments surrounded by nature

Animal Appearances & Community Experiences

Also in 2026, the family introduced their animal appearances and hands-on farm experiences. These offerings are available year-round and were created with one goal in mind: to reconnect families and communities with the beauty of farm life.
